I started this painting on scrap wood back in April and it has just been kind of waiting for me on my easel ever since. I really enjoy the juxtaposition of organic forms and hard geometric edges, so that was kind of the inspiration for this piece. You know, aside for my love of cherry blossom.
I wanted to try and do a piece that focused on the repetition of triangles, so even though the branches of the cherry blossom tree is comprised of lots of rounded shapes in the bark and flowers, the overall shapes they make are triangular. I went into the background and then repeated the triangle forms, giving them a sort of chaotic spiderweb-feel.
The piece itself if a square but on very thin wood: I would love to frame with a heavy, black frame to really emphasize this sort of idea of a surreal window into another world.
